Spokane police officers Jake Jensen, Danny Lesser and Adam Valdez have been placed on paid administrative leave for their involvement in a shooting that resulted in the death of 21-year-old homicide suspect Justin Cairns. (S-R)

Guatemala’s highest court has thrown out the genocide conviction of former dictator Efrain Rios Montt. Ten days earlier, Rios Montt was convicted of genocide and crimes against humanity for his role in killing 1,771 indigenous Mayans during a decades-long civil war.
