Indians discovered Europe. Eat THAT for Thanksgiving.

Posted on Thu, Nov 18, 2010 at 12:51 PM

Long before Columbus sailed the ocean blue, American Indians came to Europe, scientists now believe.

According to a recent genetic study, some 80 Icelanders carry the genes of an American woman who came to their fair frozen land 1,000 years ago. If my math is right, that's about 500 years before Columbus "discovered" America.

Of course, the story gets more complicated. It's suspected that the woman, and some of her kin, were taken from the Americas by those damn Vikings, who are believed to have set up camp in L'Anse aux Meadows, in present-day Eastern Canada, during the 11th century.

The moral of the story is this: Nobody discovered shit! There were always people living wherever people went. (Except for Antarctica.)

So that's that. Happy Thanksgiving!
