As the health care reform debate rages on (and on), Democratic California Congressman Henry Waxman has released a district-by-district breakdown of the benefits of the bill that will/might/probably not be voted on this weekend.
As chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Waxman has some interesting numbers specific to our district:
- Coverage would be improved for more than 400,000 of District 5-ers
- More than 43,000 uninsured Eastern Washingtonians would get covered
- 1,200 families would avoid bankruptcy
- The bill would provide funding for 30 new community health centers
Expect Waxman's numbers to be applauded, boo-ed and disputed over the next few days.
