Former Seattle reporter missing in Syria

Posted on Mon, May 2, 2011 at 11:08 AM

Dorothy Parvaz, a 39-year-old journalist who previously worked for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, has gone missing after trying to enter Syria on assignment for Al-Jazeera.

Read the P-I's account here.

Parvaz is also connected to author Kim Barker, who is reading at Auntie's Tuesday evening from her book The Taliban Shuffle (read our review). Parvaz is the fiancee of Barker's brother. On her Facebook page, Barker writes that as more people learn about Parvaz, the Syrian government may be pressured to produce and release her. Syria has been barring western journalists from entering the country during crackdowns on anti-government protests, but Parvaz also has Iranian and Canadian citizenship.

Barker suggests writing letters the Syrian Embassy in Washington, D.C.
