New newspaper planned for Liberty Lake

Posted on Tue, Jan 10, 2012 at 3:58 PM

Liberty Lake will soon be a two-newspaper town after a local publisher announced plans for a monthly magazine serving the greater Spokane Valley area.

Josh Johnson, the publisher of weekly newspaper The Liberty Lake Splash, says he plans to launch a monthly publication called The Current.

"One thing we have always grappled with at the Splash is how to deal with information that may be relevant to our leadership but not specifically about Liberty Lake," Johnson wrote in a letter published in the Splash.

While the Splash will continue to focus on news specific to Liberty Lake, Johnson says The Current will focus on news in the greater Spokane Valley area.

Johnson was not immediately available for comment.

The letter indicates that the 8,000-circulation Current will be free on about 150 newsstands starting in February. A subscription for the first 12 issues can be had for $6.
