About 70 people rallied outside of the Convention Center in downtown Spokane today to protest Condoleezza Rice, who, as secretary of state, helped the George W. Bush administration sell Americans on the Iraq invasion. Rice, now a Stanford University professor, was in town for Whitworth University's President's Leadership Forum.
The protest was organized by the Peace and Justice Action League, Spokane Veterans for Peace, Occupy Spokane, IWW, and Socialist Alternative.
“Our goal is to tell the truth about the true record of Condoleezza Rice,” says Liz Moore, director of the Peace and Justice Action League of Spokane. “Her legacy of lies misled our country into a disastrous war based on false pretenses, which has resulted in 150,000-plus dead and 2.8 million displaced in Iraq, over 13,000 US troops and contractors dead, and over 875,000 officially disabled veterans. In addition, her personal approval of torture shamed our country and violated fundamental human rights principles.”
