As your unofficial start of the weekend, Thursday has a lot to offer. Check out our event listings and Staff Picks and I think you'll agree.

No time? No problem. Here are some highlights I found for Thursday, May 14:

WORDS | Cokie Roberts used be a regular part of my Sunday mornings as part of David Brinkley's crew of commentators, and her astute political observations were always on point and delivered in an entertaining way. LIVE BANDS | Vancouver old-school punks D.O.A. drops by The Big Dipper on their current tour. Read our interview with the band, and prepare to jump in the pit.

LIVE BANDS | Swaxx hosts rapper E-40, now in his third decade dropping rhymes, along with Stevie Stone, Cool Nutz, Nessasary, Demon Assassin and Rez Loyal for a show that's sure to be one crazy scene.

LIVE BANDS | It's a rerun of the ska frenzy we enjoyed last fall, as Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish join up for a show tonight at the Knitting Factory. Here's some Reel Big Fish:
