VISUAL ARTS | It's the first First Friday of the year today, with galleries throughout downtown showcasing new works from a wide array of artists. COMMUNITY | Ever been curious about learning how to contra-dance? St. John's Cathedral is hosting a family dance and potluck Friday night that includes free lessons for newbies. 

FOOD & DRINK | If your competitive juices are flowing after the batch of New Year's Day bowl games, and you're going to be in withdrawals this weekend without a Seahawks game to watch, consider a trip to the South Hill Rocket Market for Showdown Series No. 1: Washington vs. Italy, which matches wines from our home state with some from across the pond in a blind taste test.
