No prison time for Bergdahl
Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, from Hailey, Idaho, was dishonorably discharged from the Army this morning by a military judge in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, but received no prison time for desertion and endangering his fellow troops, ending a drama that began in 2009 in war-torn Afghanistan. The judge reduced Bergdahl's rank to private. (via New York Times)

Stuckart says he's sorry
Last week, the Inlander asked City Council President Ben Stuckart about council candidate Kate Burke's sense that he had been dismissive when she approached him regarding sexual harassment by former city councilman Richard Rush. Stuckart stressed his swift response to Burke's concerns about Rush, and pushed back against her accusations of insensitivity.

But after the story was published, he struck a different tone with the Spokesman-Review. In a statement sent to that newspaper — but not the Inlander — Stuckart apologized:

"I applaud Kate for having the courage to come forward with her story. I am sorry that my conversation with her contributed to feelings of dismissal and hurt,” Stuckart writes. “When the issue first came forward I handled it swiftly and professionally, resulting in Richard Rush no longer being employed by the city. But I now know that I should have been a better listener and more sensitive to her experience.” (Spokesman-Review)
