MUSIC | How about a little free show on a Monday night? Collapsing Stars is a Minnesota-based roots-music crew swinging by Hotel RL for a free hour-long set starting at 6 pm. Here's a taste:
Tuesday, Nov. 7
COMMUNITY | Native American Heritage Month continues with a discussion at Shadle Library on Indigenous Columbia Plateau Homelands: Histories and Lives. It's free at 6:30 and should be a really interesting bit of local history that's too often ignored.
Halloween is obviously one of the week's biggest nights, but there's plenty going on all week long, as you can see in our event listings and Staff Picks. Here are some highlights of the week ahead:
Monday, Oct. 30
WORDS | Head over to Spark Central for a book release and performance called Tarot Time, a collection of community writers sharing stories inspired by the Major Arcana Tarot set.
Tuesday, Oct. 31
LIVE MUSIC | It's Halloween night, duh, so after you either go trick-or-treating or stay home and hand out candy, get out on the town for one of the many music events happening.
The Big Dipper hosts East L.A. rockers Thee Commons, a trio blending punk rock and traditional Mexican music.
Standup comic Anthony Jeselnik headlines at the Spokane Comedy Club Thursday through Saturday.

MUSIC | Skate punks rejoice! Old schoolers Agent Orange are still kicking, and they're playing the Pin! Monday night.
Tuesday, Oct. 24
MUSIC | Mastodon are one of the bright lights of modern metal, delivering intricate songs and consistently great albums over the last decade or so. On this tour, they're bringing the joyfully scuzzy Eagles of Death Metal and instru-metal cats Russian Circles along for the ride for their show at the Knitting Factory. DRINK | Love you some Crown Royal? The Canadian whisky is hosting a tasting dinner at Twigs Bistro's downtown Spokane location tonight. A tasty four-course meal and whisky samples? Yes, please!
A presentation at Gonzaga on Wednesday night explores women of color in horror films, like Blacula.

FILM | A new film series arrives at the Magic Lantern tonight. Monday Night Movies will present a series of films revolving around health care issues, and the first film, Bending The Arc, is the uplifting story of a team of young doctors in Haiti who battled the medical establishment, dysfunctional governments and patient isolation to ignite a revolutionary global movement for healthcare for the poor.
City and Colour headlines the Knitting Factory in Spokane on Friday night.

BENEFIT | Some local bands are getting together to raise money for the YWCA and NOW Spokane, and raise awareness for the important issue of violence perpetrated against women. Join Itchy Kitty, Phlegm Fatale, Thigh Gap and Wretched F—- tonight at Mootsy's.
Tuesday, Sept. 26
COMMUNITY | Hit Terrain tonight for a discussion and presentation on Spokane's Mid-Century Modern Legacy. Hosted by the Spokane City | County Historic Preservation Office and the Spokane Historic Landmarks Commission, you'll see examples of the different types and styles highlighted, learn about the architects who left their mark on Spokane and more.
