Born in England, he moved to California in the 1930s and worked as an anthropologist, systems theorist and philosopher while significantly advancing knowledge in his chosen fields. In An Ecology of Mind, his daughter stitches together a portrait of this brilliant man from old photographs, lectures, interviews and Bateson’s own films shot in Bali and New Guinea.
