Bartfest is definitely the biggest thing happening in music this weekend. After a disastrous first run at it last year, the Bartlett owners/event coordinators have put on music festival this year they feel confident Spokane will enjoy — especially the greatly reduced price tag. Tickets are $20 per night and the festival is all-ages, yet nYne turns into a 21+ venue when the clock strikes (aptly) 9 pm. Read our full preview story on the event here.

SUNDAY
Norma Jean is coming through Spokane one more time, and all those into screamo are probably out of their minds just thinking about it. Luckily, this time around, the band is playing an all-ages venue, so the kids can see 'em, too. The opening acts are pretty spot on for this show: '68, Sleepwave, the Ongoing Concept and Belle Haven. The show starts at 6:30 pm and it's $20 at the door. 

TUESDAY
Driven by fuzzy, undulating sounds that chaotically complement heavy guitar and grungy vocals, Bay Area punk band Never Young brings their high-voltage energy to a free set at Baby Bar Tuesday at 9 pm. Other acts on the bill are Local Pavlov and the Poids. Awesome!

WEDNESDAY
After everything they’ve been through, Spokane hip-hop collective Flying Spiders are still going strong. On their brand-new release The Pillaging Effigy, the band lets us in on all of their feelings from the past two years: The sadness of losing their beloved leader Isamu “Som” Jordan in “Introduction (Let’s Remember),” their affection for Spokane in “Sun Dwellers” and, of course, just wanting to spread the love of life in “Just Love.” The old-school beats are still there, as well as more electronic exploration. The positive vibes, examination of social justice issues, cuss-free lyrics: those facets will never leave the band that’s had to find its own voice all over again. CDs are $10 at the release show, which starts at 7 pm at the Bing Crosby Theater.

What, what?! Nappy Roots is coming back to Spokompton, this time performing at the Pinnacle Northwest. They really can’t seem to stay away. The lineup is huge — 40Akerz, Drunken Poetz, Ceez Carter, Moe Davis, Havoc tha Clown, KC, Mad Money, Purpose and Sean Thomas — so don’t be shocked if the Nappy Roots don’t take to the stage until way late. Meaning, Thursday will be a tired one. Show starts at 7:30 pm 

To fill up Wednesday just a little more, Crushed Out, a self-described electrified honky-tonk surf duo, is coming to the Big Dipper. Expect to dance hard at this one. The Finns, the Smokes and Feral Fosters open. The all-ages show is $7 and starts at 7:30 pm.
