Get into paddling with some lessons from the Spokane parks department, starting Friday.

You know what they say about summertime, or what others say about summertime, so I won't dwell on the fact that IT'S SUMMERTIME! (officially speaking, according to the calendar).

Here are some highlights for the week ahead from our event listings and Staff Picks:

Monday, June 20

SPORTS & OUTDOORS | Head to REI for a free class on backpacking basics and get ready to take full advantage of the amazing part of the world where you live.

Tuesday, June 21

COMMUNITY | It's time for Summer Parkways, when you can join your neighbors for a massive bike ride and party in the Comstock Park and Manito Park neighborhoods.

LIVE BANDS | The wicked-sharp garage-rock duo The Pack A.D. headlines a show at The Bartlett, so if storming guitars and bluesy stomps are your thing, head on down. And get there early for The Smokes, too. Read our interview with The Pack A.D. here, and enjoy a taste of The Pack A.D.:

Wednesday, June 22

LIVE BANDS | Baby Bar hosts a slew of killer tunes, featuring Pale Dian, Local Pavlov and The Dancing Plague of 1518

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES | Perhaps summer means you have a little more free time on your hands. If you're looking for something worthy to do, check out the Second Harvest Kitchen Volunteer Orientation at 5 pm. Hit that link for more details and to register.

Thursday, June 23

THEATER | The Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre kicks off its season with Peter and the Starcatcher

COMEDY | Guffaw Yourself now brings the funny to Neato Burrito every Thursday at 10 pm.

Friday, June 24

SPORTS & OUTDOORS | The first night of a summer-long series of Evening Kayak Paddles on the Little Spokane takes place tonight, sponsored by the Spokane parks department.

Saturday, June 25

CRAFTS | If you didn't get enough killer stuff from local artisans at Bazaar, head to the Madelia Makers Market to scope out some local artisans' wares and shop at a huge pop-up market.
