'Miss you Klink'
Washington State backup quarterback Tyler Hilinski was found dead in his Pullman apartment Tuesday of an apparent self-inflected gunshot wound. Current and former teammates, and others in the WSU community, took to social media to remember the 21-year-old. Members of the state House unanimously approved a bill Wednesday that would establish more resources for behavioral health and suicide prevention at Washington colleges. (Spokesman-Review)

Hilinski started WSU's bowl game against Michigan state (a 42-17 loss), and was the presumed starting QB next year. Police found a rifle and a suicide note near his body, and have been interviewing friends to find a motive. (Associated Press)

100 miles from the border
A father and son on a Greyhound bus from Seattle to Montana were arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents in Spokane. The 18-year-old, Sergio Vera, is in the DACA program for people brought to the U.S. illegally as children. His father, Martin Vera, has been undocumented in the U.S. for 19 years. He has no criminal record, the family says, and is now at risk to be deported. (KOMO)

Border Patrol has the authority to check the citizenship status of any person within 100 miles of the U.S. border, which includes Spokane and its Greyhound station. These types of arrests are not new, though attorneys say that before Trump was elected, only those with criminal records were targeted. (Inlander)

Cop's son guilty of manslaughter
The son of Pullman Police Commander Chris Tennant pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of 18-year-old Tim Reeves. Keagan Tennant, 17, also pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and robbery.

Tennant fired a bolt-action rifle at Reeves, killing him, during a camping trip last July. Then Tennant and another teenager, Matthew McKetta, tried to hide the body and robbed a Moscow pizza delivery driver at gunpoint. McKetta has pleaded not guilty. (Spokesman-Review)
